5 Minutes With Our IT Apprentice Jacque Khan
Technology is a vast and far-reaching area, ranging from your average desktop computer to top-secret government security projects. Artificial Intelligence is a fascinating use of tech, which happens to be one of the special interests of Jacque Khan, TechCare’s IT Apprentice. Here he tells us why he’s so interested in AI and what else he likes about tech. He also shares a little about his role, interests outside of work and what excites him most about his future with TechCare.
Can you tell us a little more about your role at TechCare?
I started at the beginning of August, and my role mainly involves managing the phones for support. So far, I’ve also been given the task of assembling reports for costs, both in and out, regarding licences for Office 365. I’m here to test and expand my knowledge to help me move forward in the IT sector. Initially, I’m going to be installing new computers, work on network setup, Wifi routers and dealing with clients in person. I love meeting clients face-to-face and getting the chance to meet the people we support. Eventually, I would like to head into the security side of IT, so I’m also doing a lot of learning about that.
Have you always been interested in tech, and if so, why?
Yes! My interest started when I was around 5 years old. I was given an old laptop by my Dad and I got really into stop motion animation with plasticine and action figures. Around the same time, I became aware of a piece of software called EJ, which has thousands of different samples that you could use to make your own music. I got really into that as well. Since then, tech has changed a lot, and new things have come out, so I’ve tried to keep up with it.
What do you love most about tech?
That’s a tricky one to answer because the tech industry is very vast these days! But the biggest thing for me at the moment is probably artificial intelligence. By that, I mean conscious AI, something like you and me but in computer form. Rumour has it that we currently have three conscious AI’s on the planet under super-secret observation!
The other thing I like about tech is the connectivity and how easy it can make life. But you have to find a balance for that; you need to ask yourself if it is making your life easier or if you’re just lazy!
How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?
I like to go to car shows with my camera and take pictures of cars! I also have my own little car project on the go. I have the usual car that gets me to and from work, and then I have another one, an old VW Lupo, sitting in the shed that I like to potter around with at the weekends.
What excites you about the future with TechCare?
I’m looking forward to gaining more knowledge and becoming smarter with computers because it’s always good to learn something new about the sector you’re in. I’m excited about where this job could take me, in terms of what clients I might meet, what opportunities it may bring, and generally evolving as a person professionally and personally.
