Rob is excited about his future with TechCare!

At TechCare, we are passionate about finding the best tech talent to strengthen our service and help our clients’ businesses thrive. That’s why we’ve been hard at work expanding our team and are so pleased to have attracted some really skilled and experienced engineers and developers over the last few months. One of these talented new TechCare team members is Rob Young who has joined the company as 2nd Line Engineer. We caught up with Rob as part of our spotlight series to find out about his role, background and what he hopes his future with TechCare holds.

You’ve just joined TechCare, but can you tell us a little about your role and what it involves?

Of course! As 2nd line support, I handle calls that are escalated from 1st line, which generally include queries that are a little more technical than usual. I also liaise with 3rd party vendors on behalf of clients and 1st line, almost as a translator, putting their high-level responses into layman’s terms for the client to resolve their problem.

Can you tell us a little about your background?

I’ve been working in IT ever since I left school at 18 and so I have 25 years of IT experience. I’ve held IT support roles in various industries, including law enforcement, transport, petrochemicals and construction. But three years ago, I lost my mother, so I decided to take a break from IT and pursue photography. I started a little photography business which grew nicely for a while, but then the pandemic hit and pretty much wiped it out. The opportunity at TechCare allowed me to get back into IT, and I’m loving it. My wife is keeping the photography business going, and I help out at weekends, but it’s really great here. Technology moves at a fast pace, so I’ve had to learn what I’ve missed over the last three years, but the team here has been brilliant; they’re all really friendly and supportive.

Have you always been interested in tech?

When I was younger, I was constantly ripping things apart and putting them back together, but now I’m older, I just like things to work. I’m happy to fix things for other people at work, but when I go home, I like my own tech to simply do what it’s supposed to do!

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?

Taking photographs! I also have two sons who are into bikes and sport and space and all the other things teenage kids are into, so I like to get involved in all of that. I don’t have a lot of time to do my own things, but I do like to take an interest in what they do. I am a keen Star Wars fan though, and so I always make time for that!

What excites you about your future with TechCare?

It’s an exciting company and it will be fascinating to watch it grow. Karl (Karl Frankham, TechCare MD) is bringing many new people on board to tackle things that perhaps they haven’t been able to in the past. It will be interesting from my point of view to see how I can grow with the company as well. TechCare has given me the opportunity to kickstart my career again, so I’m very excited about the future.
