If you’re looking for the short answer, then yes, WiFi 7 is better than WiFi 6. In fact, it’s leaps and bounds above WiFi 6 and 6E. Let’s dive into why it is better.

Faster speed

The benefit that most people will realise is the improvement in speed – 2.4x faster in fact. This means that standard mobile phone maximum speeds can reach up to 5Gbps, and homes will be ready for 10Gbps internet speeds when they’re made available.

What this means for businesses: faster download and uploads, saving time on updates, improved productivity, high-speed cloud storage, future-ready.

Greater channel width

WiFi 7 operates with 320MHz bandwidth for connecting to individual devices. This is double that of WiFi 6, in turn doubling the WiFi speeds to devices and supporting more devices in total.

What this means for businesses: more devices without slowing down, smooth performance for all, enhanced user experiences.

More data density

WiFi 7 also sees an increase in the amount of data that can be encoded onto a radio signal, alongside the increase in speed and bandwidth. WiFi 7 offers 4k QAM, increased from 1024 QAM, so throughput is boosted. There’s also 20% higher transmission rates.

What this means for businesses: high-quality connections, streamlined performance for data-heavy activities, optimised bandwidth, smoother workflows, fewer disruptions.

The greater channel width and data density are responsible for the 2.4x increase in speed.

Multi-link operation

WiFi 7 can now connect to a device using multiple bands (e.g. 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz) simultaneously, or switch between them seamlessly.

What this means for businesses: stronger connections, no dropped calls, no buffering when moving about the office, improved reliability, avoids congestion, smooth connections in busy environments.

Flexible channel utilisation

With flexible channel utilisation, WiFi can block only the “bad” parts of a channel impacted by interference, still allowing the rest of the data to be used for data transfer.

What this means for businesses: more reliable WiFi, keeps critical systems running despite interference, smooth performance for time-sensitive tasks like video conferencing and live-streaming.

It’s clear WiFi 7 is the shiny, new version of WiFi 6 and it’s ready to help businesses save time and improve reliability.
