7 tips and tricks to make your password unguessable

Passwords are a vital part of our daily lives; we need them 24/7 365 days a year. Passwords protect our personal information and act as a digital bodyguard for your privacy. Staying safe online is important and the main way to stay safe is to have a strong password. There are many different tricks we can recommend staying safe from these threats, but these are the ones we would most recommend.

1. A long password.

A long password can really keep you safe as it makes your password unpredictable and much harder to guess.

2. Don’t use personal information.

There are many things that can influence your password but try to stay away from anything that relates to you to much. Anything that could be found out about you online should be kept away from your password.

3. Use a mix of characters.

Using characters that are unusual such as: “£^*, these are not commonly used so really change up your password and make it unpredictable.

4. Never re-use passwords.

Re-using passwords could be one of the worst things you can do. If someone can guess just one of your accounts, no matter how meaningless it is, it can lead to all your accounts being accessed by others.

5. Store your passwords in a password manager.

These are very secure and will make sure you don’t have to remember all your passwords. Password managers such as LastPass, Firefox Password Manager, and 1Password are all good password managers and will keep your passwords safe and secure.

6. Use 2 factor authentication.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an identity and access management security method that requires two forms of identification to access resources and data. 2 factor authentication is extremely helpful as this can make sure you are not caught unaware if someone is accessing your account.

7. Use a VPN when on public Wi-Fi.

Public Wi-Fi has a lot lower security compared to private networks. VPN’s improve public Wi-Fi security by obscuring your IP address and apply advanced encryption to their online data traffic.

These are the best ways to keep your accounts, and anything relating to you, safe. Just remember, don’t share your passwords with anyone.
