The Client:

English Touring Theatre (ETT) is a renowned theatre company based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1993, ETT has established itself as a leading force in touring theatre productions across the country. ETT operates as a not-for-profit organisation, with a focus on bringing high-quality theatre productions to regions outside of London’s traditional theatre circuit. By touring their productions to various venues, ETT strives to reach a wide range of communities and contribute to the cultural enrichment of audiences across the UK.

The Problem:

ETT faced challenges with their outdated office infrastructure, including poor connectivity and an office layout that hindered collaboration. Seeking to renovate their main office space, ETT aimed to create a more collaborative environment that would boost employee morale. However, the new office layout presented a dilemma, as it required network connectivity in the centre of the room without compromising safety.

ETT’s office had outdated connections and lacked the necessary cabling infrastructure to support the desired office layout. The existing desks, facing the walls, hindered collaboration among employees. Additionally, the office’s old beams and structure added complexity to the project. The challenge was to provide network connectivity to the centre of the room while ensuring safety and avoiding potential hazards.

The Solution:

ETT engaged Techcare, a trusted network solutions provider, to address their connectivity and collaboration issues. Techcare’s Infrastructure Project Manager was on site for initial discussions before bringing in the network engineers for a full site survey. The team quickly understood ETT’s requirements and proposed a comprehensive solution. They recommended installing Cat6 cabling and power to the centre of the room via the floor, eliminating the need for hazardous wires across walkways.

Despite the tight deadline of only four weeks, which also coincided with the Easter holidays, Techcare were able to find a suitable time to complete the project. Their networks team, known for their high standard of work, installed the network cables and power under the floor using floor boxes, ensuring safe and reliable connections.

As part of the project, Techcare also installed a new 12u comms cabinet, with a 6-way PDU inside that is powered by a local supply, further improving overall safety and performance. The team also mounted a CCTV monitor onto the wall alongside the cabinet to finish it off.

The Outcome:

The successful collaboration between ETT and Techcare resulted in a transformed office environment. Employees now enjoy a more collaborative workspace, fostering creativity and teamwork. The reliable and safe network connection provided by Techcare allows ETT to conduct their operations without disruption. ETT expressed their satisfaction with the project, praising Techcare’s understanding of their challenges and commitment to delivering the best solutions. Techcare demonstrated their support for ETT’s not-for-profit status by reducing the project time from four days to three, effectively lowering costs and accommodating ETT’s tight budget.

“Kelly and the Networks Team at Techcare demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ETT, going above and beyond to meet our challenging deadline and budget constraints. Their deep understanding of our unique challenges and the best solutions was truly remarkable. Thanks to their expertise, we were able to complete our office renovations swiftly and with minimal disruption to our business operations. Now, we thrive in a more collaborative environment, confident in the reliability and safety of our network connection.” – Kadir Ali
